Northern Tradition & Mythology

Post by akai »

I think this thread should be all general topics on Norse/Northern Tradition & Mythology. I will periodically post either excerpts and interpretations of Eddas, Sagas, and even on Runes (in poetic form or just in interpretation of the Rune and a reflection on them).

I have a wiki/collection of articles in the works on Norse mythology and traditions in general. I think that this thread would help encourage me to expand on it, and hopefully publish the articles. It just is too incomplete or lacking structure at the moment, and also almost abandoned too. Hopefully, this thread and any thoughts or discussions encourages me (and you) to stay motivated and interested in Norse mythology and tradition.

Generally speaking, the Northern tradition is any Germanic/Norse spiritual path. This is not a thread strictly on Odinism, Asatru, Vanatru or Rokkatru. Those topics will come up, but this thread's primary purpose is to discuss on hopefully a more academic or objective level about the Gods and Goddesses, cosmology, cosmogony, and all of the above with mythology and histories relating to the North.

A good conversation to start with is: Let's talk about Odin.
I'll start with: Odin's primary functions are as a god of wisdom, war, death and ecstasy (poetry).
